Vishuddha is a Sanskrit word ‘Shuddhi’ means ‘purification’, and the prefix ‘Vi’ enhances this quality. The divine nectar called Amrita is a kind of sweet secretion produced at Bindu center and flow down to Vishuddha for purification. The pure nectar is a mystical elixir of immortality nourishes the body, ensuring excellent health and longevity.
Between Ajna and Sahasrara chakra, there is a center called Bindu. It is located at the top back of the head, where Brahmin’s tuft hair. Bindu depicts as a crescent moon with a white drop, which is the nectar flowing down to Vishuddha chakra.
Vishuddhi has also called as the ‘nectar and poison center’. Here, the amrita drips down from bindu splits into the nectar and poison. The pure nectar nourishes the body after discarding the poison. All purifications take place in this chakra; purification means removal of all dualities and coming to the realization of Supreme Cosmic Spirit.

Location for Vishuddha chakra is situates in the throat, in front of the cervical region, the larynx to be specific. It is a gateway to the sound.
Vishuddha chakra symbol is a light blue colored lotus with sixteen petals. In the lotus center, this chakra’s yantra is a silver crescent within a milky circle shining as a full moon. At the center of the milky circle, the bija mantra is ham. The animal serves for this chakra is a white elephant Airavata.

- The Vrittis means Whirlpool depicted on the petals, this chakra governs speech and expression thus holds various mantras and musical notes. Bija or Seed Mantra is “HAM,” sounded as HANG. How to pronounce the mantra - exhale audibly through your mouth, and pronounce the word hum (as in humming); allow the breath to extend beyond the resolution of the consonant. The ‘H’ sound should produce at the back of the throat focusing in the throat chakra.
Sense of this chakra is the hearing, and Sensory-organ is the ears. The Verb associated with the fourth chakra is “I speak." Musical note for this chakra is "G."
Element for this chakra is sound and ether, which are inseparable. Because of their intimate relationship, the ear is the associated sense organ of the element ether, and voice (mouth) is its organ of action. Ether is also omnipresent, present everywhere.
Plexus for this chakra is the pharyngeal plexus. The pharyngeal plexus is a network of nerve fibers innervating most of the palate, larynx, and pharynx. It is located in the surface of the middle pharyngeal constrictor muscle.
The endocrine gland for the Vishuddha chakra is the Thyroid and Parathyroid glands. These glands secrete hormones those are essential for every organ, tissue, and cell in the body. Thyroid hormones regulate the body’s metabolism and organ function, affecting heart rate, cholesterol level, body weight, energy level, muscle strength, skin condition, menstrual regularity, memory, and many more. Another prime example is the salivary glands, which include the parotid, sublingual, and sub-maxillary. These glands are responsible for producing enzymes initiate the digestion of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. For proper continuous digestion of protein, it takes 45 minutes to an hour for adequate HCL acid and pepsin production in the stomach.
Balanced Vishuddha chakra has powerful communications, listening, expression, or creative identity. They probably eat their foods slowly and chew well. Great singers and speakers usually have a very strong fifth Chakra, denotes the ability to enchant others with the voice.
Unbalanced Vishuddha chakra can lead to headaches (or migraine), dizziness, fatigue, cold head, vision problems, hearing loss, sinus, allergies, runny nose, sore throat, tonsillitis, hoarseness, laryngitis, stiff neck, cough, croup, pain in upper arm, tennis elbow, wrist, hand and finger numbness or pain, shortness of breath, breathing difficulty, asthma, heart conditions, chest pains, heartburn, and chronic tiredness. Other problems, which can be severe if one has hyperthyroidism (overactive); include heartbeat faster, loss of weight regardless of how much one eats, and a restless mind that cannot relax. Hypothyroidism (underactive) works in the opposite way with weight gain (which strains the heart) and causes a sluggish mind. When this Chakra is blocked, there could be problems in the throat, inflammation of the gums, pain in the teeth, a voice that is not natural (too high-pitched is a perfect example). Remember, this Chakra is not about whom you are; it is about how you communicate who you are to others. If this Chakra is blocked, how you appear to others will be quite different than who you really are. This could possibly cause constant misunderstandings in life.
The foods that nourish this chakra are mainly fruits such as grapefruits, figs, kiwi, lemons, apples, pears, plums, peaches and apricots. Drinking lots of water, herbal teas, soups and fresh fruit juices is also great to fuel this chakra. Sea plants, unrefined sea salt and lemon grass are the perfect spices and condiments here.
Yoga for this chakra is Matysasana, neck stretches, and shoulder openers like Salamba Sarvangasana, Ustrasana, Setu Bandhasana, and Halasana.
Gemstones for this chakra are Sodalite, Lapis Lazuli, Blue Lace Agate, Kambaba Jasper, Blue Aventurine.

Mudra for the Throat Chakra: Cross your fingers in such a way the right thumb is on the left. Press the left thumb to the right slightly. Note in case of women, place the left thumb on the right. Press the right thumb to the left slightly.
