Angina itself is not a disease, but it is a symptom indicating coronary heart disease. Angina is a chest pain that occurs when the heart muscle not gets enough oxygen-rich blood.
Heart muscles are normally nourishing by oxygen, and nutrient-rich blood supplied through the coronary arteries. If a plaque narrows or blocks these coronary arteries, which leads to a condition called as coronary heart disease and it has the common symptom of angina.
Common symptoms of coronary artery diseases
- Feel a pressure or a squeezing pain in the chest, shoulders, arms, neck, jaw, or back.
- Pain may tend to get worse with activity and go away when resting.
- Emotional stress can trigger the pain episode.
- Shortness of breath happens if coronary heart disease causes heart failure. Means heart cannot be able to pump enough blood throughout the body. Fluid may build-up in the lungs, making it hard to breathe.
The severity of these symptoms varies according to the level of block in arteries. The symptoms may get worse as the buildup of plaque continues to narrow the coronary arteries.
