All the high-cholesterol risks begin with atherosclerosis; atherosclerosis is the buildup of fatty deposits on the inner side of arteries called as plaque. Arteries are blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients rich blood to the heart, brain, and other parts of the body. If the plaque start’s build-up in an artery, the artery gradually becomes narrow. Due to narrowed artery, there reduce blood flow and thus nutrient and oxygen shortage in the brain, heart and other parts of the body is common. The artery may also become less elastic called as hardening of the arteries.

Atherosclerosis is the main cause of a group of diseases called cardiovascular diseases, the heart and blood vessels disease. Hyperlipidemia is one of the major risks for the causes of atherosclerosis and thus heart disease or having a heart attack. Heart disease is the number one killer of women and men in this universe, followed by the stroke is the second killer, which is contributing by hyperlipidemia.

Unfortunately, high-cholesterol is a major contributor to cardiovascular disease, which can cause strokes and heart attacks.

In spite of all of the latest treatments we have, cardiovascular disease is still the number one cause of death and illness in our society.

The WHO (World Health Organization) estimates that about 20% of strokes and over 50% of heart attacks can be due to high cholesterol.

However, if you have been diagnosing with high cholesterol, do not despair. The good thing is that high cholesterol is one of the risk factor for strokes and heart attacks that you can alter. Now you need to work, before your high cholesterol results in more serious disease.
