Random plasma glucose test measures plasma or blood glucose levels, casually at any time.

Perform this test by drawing blood at any time of the day. No fasting required and no worry about what you have eaten. That is why this test is-called as the casual plasma glucose test.

What is Random blood glucose test? Random blood glucose or sugar test is the testing of the blood sugar level at any time (i.e., random time of the day). 

RBS test is performed to screen diabetes, which does not require fasting or other restriction or limitations.  A level of 200 mg/dl or higher is an indication of diabetes. And need additional tests such as fasting blood glucose, oral glucose tolerance test, and or a1c test to confirm diabetes diagnosis.

Interpreting random plasma glucose test

A blood glucose level of under 200 mg/dl or 11.1 mmol/L is a good number.
A blood glucose level of over 200 mg/dl or 11.1 mmol/l is diabetes if you additionally have diabetes symptoms.

The doctor recommends a subsequent re-test on a different day. This re-test should be  Fasting plasma glucose test or Oral glucose tolerance test.
